The Story
Born in 1920 in Nagpur, Thengadi was drawn to the national movement in his youth and became a devoted worker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. His intellectual depth and his organising genius made him one of the most influential figures of the movement, and his thought ranged across economics, politics, and philosophy.
He developed the philosophy of integral humanism — the vision of a society organised not for the individual or the state but for the whole human being, in the light of the traditions of Bhārat. He founded the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh in 1955, which grew into one of the largest trade unions of the world, and his economic thought influenced the policies of the nation.
He died in 2004, honoured as one of the great thinkers of the modern awakening. His philosophy and his institutions continue to shape the national life, and his name remains the most important in the thought of the nationalist movement of the age.
